5 Things That Help Me During A Seizure Setback

In the ten years that I have lived with epilepsy and experienced seizures, I can’t tell you just how many seizures have pained me, drained me, and unplugged me from every day activities.

Below, I’m going to share with you 5 of the greatest things that have personally helped me bounce back following a seizure setback.

  • A heating pack – After a big seizure or a grand mal seizure, I experience a terrible migraine headache. Pressure in my head that breaks the scale. The heating pack helps ease this pain. Even herbal heating packs. Great to find on Amazon or even Etsy.
  • Chamomile Tea – This tea helps relax the body from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
  • Water – Water is our source of life! It restores our energy, flushes out any impurities, and hydrates us.
  • Relaxing/Calming music – After a big seizure, tension still remains locked up within my body, along with stress and a few other unwanted emotions. Listening to relaxing/calming music releases any stress or anxiety allowing you to surrender to pure relaxation. I would encourage you, if you haven’t already to try out an app that I have found very beneficial called “Relax Melodies” which includes a plethora of different sounds and music. You’re also given the option to create your own mixture by combining the sounds you enjoy.
  • Sleep – At times, my body needs to be set into recovery mode following a big seizure. Our brains, our bodies have just gone through the ringer. Nourishing our brains and bodies with a short period of rest allows for restoration. I find that I feel just about as good as new after a nice long nap or even an early night sleep.

    I totally understand where you’re coming from and I agree on the chamomile tea, heating pads and sleep!!! Once I’m given my Lorazepam (Ativan) I am knocked out for DAYS. The chamomile tea keeps me mentally calm and the heating pad is great for my tailbone. I often fall on my butt lol :(. Or hurt my ankle. I would say two other things that helps me personally are Excedrin Extra Strength & peppermint essential oil. I usethe peppermint oil it on my head to help the massive migraines that I often get after waking up from a seizure. And of course, the Excedrin helps kill off the rest of the pain. That’s the seizure recovery kit!!!

      That’s good advice. I would like to try the peppermint oil. I like to get some rest after I have a seizure. Or sometimes I feel like just cleaning, it’s a stress reliever for me. I also try not to take anything else than the seizure medication that I’m on. I’m trying to get back to exercising, I did it for years, and didn’t know it was helping boost the serotonin level in my brain. Take care and good luck.
